Everything below is answered from how the service actually works, not from how we would like it to sound.
Can I send files from my phone to a computer?
Yes, and the other way round. SendXa runs in the browser, so iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux can all send and receive without installing anything.
How large can a file be?
Up to 32.0 GB per file, with no limit on how often you send. Files are never stored on our server, so file size has nothing to do with our disk space.
Do I need an account?
No. No account, no email, nothing to install. Open the page and start sending.
Can I send a piece of text or a link?
Yes. Copy the text, then hit Copy text on the page, or just press Ctrl+V. One tap on the receiving device puts it into their clipboard, with no file to save. An image in your clipboard works the same way.
Can the person receiving send something back?
Yes. Once both sides are in a session, either of them can add files or text to it, with no need to open a second session and read out another set of numbers. Every row shows who put it there.
What if I reload or close the page by accident?
Reopen it and you are back in the same session, with no ID or code to type again. The browser holds them for that tab alone. Close the tab for good and they go.
Are my files stored on your server?
Not on the normal route. The server only keeps file names and sizes while the session is open; the data streams from sender to receiver and is never written to disk. The one exception is the 24-hour route, which you have to pick deliberately.
Does the recipient have to install anything?
No. They open sendxa.app and enter the 8-character code, or just click the link you sent.
Can I send a whole folder?
Yes. Drag a whole folder onto the page and the tree comes across intact, so the receiving side sees the same structure inside. Up to 6 levels deep and 500 files per send.
Can I lock a file with my own password?
SendXa does not do that. The page used to carry a Lock with my own password option; it was removed on 25 August 2026 because it only worked on files under 100 MB. Zip the file with a password using 7-Zip, WinRAR or Compress on macOS, send the archive, and pass the password along some other way. No size limit.
What if the other machine is not online?
Pick the route that leaves the files for 24 hours and gives you a link. It differs from the other two in that the files are written to our disk and anyone with the link can download them; in exchange you can close the page whenever you like. They delete themselves after 24 hours, up to 500 MB per file.
Is there an AirDrop for Windows?
SendXa does the same job without being tied to one brand. Open the page on both machines, read out the 8-character code, and the file goes across. It works between Windows and iPhone, Android and macOS, Linux and anything else with a browser.
How do I send files from an iPhone to a Windows PC?
Open sendxa.app in Safari on the iPhone and pick the photos or files. The page shows an 8-character code. Open the same page on the PC, type it in, and hit download. Nothing to install on either side.
How do I transfer files from Android to a macOS computer?
Open sendxa.app in Chrome on the Android phone, pick the files, then enter the code on the macOS machine. Or send yourself the link and open it on the macOS machine. The direction does not matter: the macOS machine can send back into the same session.
Can you read my files?
We never write them down, so there is nothing to read afterwards. When the two devices connect directly, the file does not pass through our server at all. When the network blocks that, it streams through the server without touching disk, and the server is the point where the two TLS legs meet. We do not read it, but that is an operational promise rather than a mathematical guarantee. For a file that needs more than a promise, zip it with a password before you send it, and pass the password along some other way.
How fast is it?
As fast as the slower of the two connections. Nothing is uploaded and then downloaded again, so you wait once instead of twice. When both browsers can reach each other directly, the file goes at local network speed and costs nobody bandwidth.
Does the sending device have to stay open?
Yes, until the other side finishes. A file only leaves your device at the moment they hit download, which is exactly why nothing is stored on our server. Close that tab and the transfer stops. If you cannot wait around, pick the 24-hour route instead: press the cloud button on the file row, the file sits on our disk, and the other side fetches that copy on its own once it cannot reach you.
What happens if my connection drops?
The transfer picks up where it left off instead of starting over. The receiving side retries on its own, waiting a little longer each time, up to thirty attempts. You can also hit Stop on purpose and continue later while the session is open.
Is it free, and are there ads?
Free, with no daily quota and no limit on how often you send. No ads, and no third-party tracking code on the page.
How long does a session last?
Up to 12 hours, after which the code stops working whether the files arrived or not. Close it sooner and everything about it disappears at that moment.
Can I send more than one file at a time?
Yes, up to 500 files in one session, and you can keep adding to a session that is already open without generating a new code.
Can I send a whole folder?
Yes. Drag a folder onto the page and the tree comes across intact: the receiving side sees photos/2026/beach.jpg rather than a pile of loose files, and two files with the same name in different subfolders stay distinct. Up to 6 levels deep.
